It is an unfortunate fact that crime is on the increase. There are more and more burglaries being reported everyday. Your home should be the place that you feel safe in so getting a good burglar is an added measure to make sure you feel protected.

You should always seek a qualified and registered electrician to install your burglar alarm.

Why have a burglar alarm?

A burglary is an invasion of your private space and is always an unpleasant experience. Not only does a burglar steal your possessions but they are able to take away your feeling of security and comfort too. Having a burglar alarm is a preventative measure against burglaries and also a warning and alert system so that when or if a burglary should occur, response is immediate. Essentially a burglar alarm is there to protect your property, yourself and your family.

What do you expect to get from an alarm?

A good burglar alarm should be there as an early warning system that someone is on your property uninvited, whether you are home or away. You should expect your alarm to reliably go off once someone enters your property illegally. A good alarm should never be able to be unplugged at the wall socket, rather a wireless or radio system is best. For a more effective response to your alarm it is best to have your alarm system connected to a response team. When your alarm is triggered this response team is immediately alerted and they can come to your property to investigate. An alarm should also be audible so that neighbours can hear it, who can then call in the matter to the police.

Areas that need to be protected

When installing an alarm you need to consider how you want the alarm to be triggered. Some people will have an alarm that is triggered when someone opens the front or back doors or perhaps even the windows. But sometimes this isn’t enough. A burglar may be able to lift the glass pane from the window or get in by some other means and the alarm won’t go off. Alarm sensors strategically placed throughout your house is a solution to this problem. You will need to identify which rooms should have a sensor and where the best points are for such sensors, such as passageways.

Important extras

As an added protection, you can get an alarm that has a panic button installed somewhere in your home. This will usually be somewhere like your bedroom that is easy to access in case of an emergency. Some alarm companies will offer a remote control system for your alarm which will have a panic button too. You should check with your alarm company if you are able to activate and deactivate certain zones within your house. This allows you to have your alarm active in some rooms of your house at night while still being able to move around, say from your bedroom to the bathroom. This gives you and your family the extra comfort of knowing that you will be safe.

A good alarm system is a warning system, a deterrent and rapid response device all in one. It will keep your house and valuables safe while you are away and keep you and your family safe too when you are home. For peace of mind and the knowledge that you are safe, a good burglar alarm is a worthy investment.
